Changing times call for changes in the OD practice, experts say
Primary Care Optometry News Editor Michael D. DePaolis, OD, FAAO, moderated a discussion conducted among PCON Industry Council members who debated the current state of the profession and the changes to come for the practice of optometry.

In part 1 of this feature in the January print edition, experts from the areas of contact lenses, spectacle lenses, diagnostic technology and pharmaceuticals addressed DePaolis’ first question: “We all hear there will be 30 million uninsured people flooding eye care practitioners’ offices. Will that really happen, or have many of them traditionally been seen as fee-for-service patients?”
The discussion then progressed from the Affordable Care Act to delegating refraction, incorporating new technology and prescribing to patients.
Part 2 will appear in the February print edition.
