U.S. vision benefit and services provider VSP Vision Care announced the creation of a new Health Plan and Public Exchanges Unit that has contracted with 90 new health plans to increase access to care.

The organization stated that plan members will receive eye care through its network of more than 30,000 providers, according to a press release.

VSP also announced that they have named Al Schubert as the senior vice president and general manager of the new business unit.

“As we adapt to meet the future needs of the eye care and health care industries, our organization continues to stay focused on keeping patients connected with their eye care providers,” Jim McGrann, president of VSP Vision Care, said. “Al’s background gives him a unique perspective on this developing market and makes him the right person to lead this effort.”

“I’m excited about this new opportunity and committed to partnering with health plans to deliver exceptional eye care to members while keeping and increasing patient access for VSP network doctors,” Schubert said. “Our focus is on integrated care and the new delivery models associated with health reform.”
