Nicox launches in-office Sjögren’s syndrome test to ECPs

Nicox announced the availability of Sjö, its new diagnostic panel designed for early detection of Sjögren’s syndrome in the eye care professional’s office, according to a company press release.
The first sign of Sjögren’s syndrome is often dry eye, according to the press release. With this test, clinicians in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico can now distinguish between simple dry eye and dry eye caused by Sjögren’s.
Sjö, developed by Immco Diagnostics Inc., combines traditional markers for Sjögren’s with three novel, proprietary biomarkers, allowing for earlier detection of disease, the press release said.
“Currently, there is an average delay of 4.7 years for patients to receive an accurate diagnosis, and patients are often diagnosed in late stages of the disease after gland degradation has taken effect,” according to the release.
Nicox also announced that it has formed a partnership with the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation to increase awareness of the disease among ECPs.
“A targeted media campaign over the next few months will aim to educate specialists about the disease and the role they can play in early detection,” the release said.
