Industry plans for World Sight Day
On Oct. 10, the ophthalmic industry will celebrate World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
This annual global fundraising campaign is coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness under the Vision 2020 Global Initiative and supported by eye health organizations around the world, including Optometry Giving Sight.
The goal of Optometry Giving Sight and the World Sight Day Challenge is to address avoidable blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and glasses.
Optometry Giving Sight delivers eye care to underserved areas, establishes community-based vision centers and optical labs and invests in long-term strategies for education and human resource development within local communities by establishing culturally appropriate education programs to produce eye care professionals and other supporting personnel.
