EyeTrain releases video game training system for amblyopes

LAS VEGAS – Here at Vision Expo West, EyeTrain introduced its video game system designed for treating adults with amblyopia.

EyeTrain’s Michael Nelson, OD, told PRIMARY CARE OPTOMETRY NEWS that many practitioners believe adults with amblyopia are untreatable. However, studies have shown that adults who trained with a video game system showed improvements in visual acuity and stereopsis.

EyeTrain is a video game played for 30 minutes in the doctor’s office two or three times a week. The games use dichoptical viewing, where one eye views one image, and the other eye views a different image, Nelson said.

According to company literature, the use of EyeTrain will enhance patching for better results, provide patients with cutting edge technology and generate a new source of revenue.

The system comes with a 42-inch LED monitor, a portable stand, and plug-and-play software, according to Nelson. Practitioners start off with 200 free minutes then pay monthly fees based on minutes of actual patient game play.
