FDA approves new lens material from Valeant, B + L

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. and Bausch + Lomb have received marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Bausch + Lomb’s newest frequent replacement silicone hydrogel contact lens, according to a company press release.

This new monthly disposable silicone hydrogel lens incorporates Bausch + Lomb’s MoistureSeal Technology, the release said.

“We are encouraged to receive this significant marketing clearance much sooner than originally expected,” J. Michael Pearson, chairman and chief executive officer of Valeant, said in the release. “When paired with Biotrue OneDay, we believe this new technology will begin to build an improved contact lens business by providing contact lens wearers with unsurpassed comfort and vision throughout the day.”

Valeant and Bausch + Lomb will announce a launch date soon, according to a company spokesperson.
