Lagado Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Menicon America Inc., has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for Lagado LSH (mangofilcon A), a new silicone hydrogel material for use in contact lenses, the company said in a press release.

The material has a midrange water content (49%), and Lagado LSH lenses will be plasma oxidized to produce a low wetting angle and improved wettability, which promotes lens comfort, improves visual performance and reduces the potential for deposits, according to the release.

The company will now begin working closely with a select group of independent, custom lens laboratories in the U.S. Each lab is required to submit and receive FDA clearance for lenses offered in the Lagado LSH material, the release said.

The company anticipates Lagado LSH lenses becoming available later this year, according to the release.
