NEW YORK — PFO Global announced the launch of its new antireflection, blue light filtering lens coating, iBlu, here at Vision Expo East.

IBlu coat is an antireflection coating specially developed to protect eyes from harmful ultraviolet and blue light, according to a press release.

The coating filters blue light to a high degree of efficiency from both the front and back reflected light, the release said.

“With all the LED devices we have now — computer screens, smart phones, TVs, even the lights we use — there’s more and more harmful blue light that we’re being exposed to,” Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president of operations for PFO Global, said in an interview with Primary Care Optometry News. “And we’re using these things all the time. When you get that much blue light, you can get eyestrain, dry eye, headaches and you can have trouble sleeping.”

IBlu coat protects eyes from these deleterious effects by filtering the harmful blue light to reduce eye fatigue, the release said.

Aside from blocking ultraviolet and blue light, iBlu coat is antireflective, smudge resistant, scratch resistant, dust resistant and water resistant, according to the release.

IBlu coat is available on lightweight, high-impact resistant Resolution polycarbonate lenses made by PFO, the release said.
