NEW YORK — Shamir demonstrated a prototype of its new digital measurement device, the Single-shot Panorameter Augmented Reality Kit, or SPARK, at a press conference here at Vision Expo East.

The SPARK is a 3D measuring tool that fits securely over an iPad and automatically calculates all as-worn frame measurements based on one picture. From this single picture, it is capable of taking measurements for panoramic angle, pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance, fitting height, mono PD, HBOX, VBOX and DBL, according to a company press release.

“SPARK should help our eye care practitioners get accurate measurements the first time, which will help their patients to get a more precise lens,” Matt Lytle, vice president of marketing, Shamir, said in the release. “The as-worn measurements help make Shamir’s designs personalized to each patient and encourage ECPs to get these measurements from every patient, every time.”

The device is not currently available for purchase, Shamir said during the press conference, but should be in about 8 weeks.
