ATLANTA – CenterVue introduced its new 2WIN For Vision handheld, binocular refractometer and vision analyzer at a press conference here at SECO.
The 2WIN is fully automated, has a 7-second exam time and is battery operated. It can measure for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, pupil size, pupil distance and anisocoria, as well as refraction, according to a company press release.
"This is really meant to be a screening device for uncooperative young folks that don’t give you feedback in a normal exam," Cliff Wright, OD, chief operating officer of CenterVue, said during the press conference. "It can improve practice efficiency in the sense that instead of struggling with the retina scope on little kids, the technician is using this device instead.
"It’s battery-operated," he added. "So you can take it into a corporate environment and do workplace screenings. You can certainly take it to schools, churches, synagogues, temples, day care centers; so it’s very mobile."
It also enables an objective check for the ideal optical correction in binocular mode, the release said.
The 2WIN is 6.3 inches long, 4 inches wide and 3 inches thick, with a rechargeable battery; weighs about 30 ounces; and has a 3.5-inch display screen. It is Wi-Fi capable, has a USB and microSD card data interface and a USB and infrared printer interface, according to the release.
A portable wireless printer and supplementary battery are available as optional accessories, it said.
The 2WIN was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in October 2012 and is currently available in all U.S. markets, Wright said.
