Funding support from Optometry Giving Sight has paved the way for the creation of an academic vision center to give students at the Malawi School of Optometry the opportunity for hands-on training with real instruments and real patients, according to an Optometry Giving Sight press release.

Canadian Vision Care, an eye care charity, and Allan Jones, OD, a Canadian optometrist, augmented the funding from Optometry Giving Sight, according to the release.

The School of Optometry program in Malawi is a project of the Brien Holden Vision Institute, which is implemented in conjunction with Mzuzu University, Malawi Ministry of Health, Malawi College of Health Sciences, Sightsavers International and Optometry Giving Sight, the release said.
