SynergEyes launches hybrid lens

SynergEyes Inc. announced the availability of UltraHealth, its new hybrid contact lens for patients with irregular corneas and keratoconus, in a company press release.

The new silicone hydrogel lens is designed for patients with all stages of keratoconus, the company said. The reverse geometry lens has a soft skirt with a Dk/t of 84 and central gas-permeable material with a Dk/t of 130. It is available in several central vault heights, and the skirt is available in three curves.

“The design of UltraHealth enables the lens to center very well on irregularly shaped corneas, to provide very crisp vision,” James Kirchner, OD, SynergEyes senior vice president of clinical and professional services, said in the press release. “Since the lens is designed to vault over the peak of the cornea, the comfort is also greatly improved.”

According to the press release, the flatter base curve allows the centration of the lens to depend less on the location of the cone. “A better centration in concert with a lower power acts to reduce aberrations and increases the quality of the patient’s vision,” the release said.
