The World Council of Optometry organized a 2-day workshop earlier this month designed to provide expert advice on the most effective ways to teach students of optometry, according to a press release.

The workshop, entitled “EyeTeach: From Clinician to Educator,” was held Nov. 17 to 18 and taught attendees the different ways people learn, how to structure a course to achieve expected learning outcomes and how to use different teaching methods, such as lectures, role play, presentations and case studies, the release said.

The workshop was delivered by the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) and jointly funded by the BHVI and Optometry Giving Sight.

“EyeTeach is an education initiative offered by the Brien Holden Vision Institute to better equip optometry educators with the knowledge and expertise to facilitate student learning,” Kovin Naidoo, OD, MPH, BSc, BOptom, global program director of the BHVI and member of the WCO Governing Board, said in the release. “EyeTeach operates as an interactive series of workshops and self-assessment exercises, ultimately producing skilled eye care personnel to provide more prolific services to the global community.”
