ICEE changes organization name
The International Centre for Eyecare Education will be known as the Public Health Division of the Brien Holden Vision Institute to signify the partnership with the organization.
The nonprofit organization is focused on the quality of vision and equity of eye care access.
“Together we offer a practical fusion of science with commercialization, education and global eye care development,” Kovin Naidoo, OD, PhD, MPH, global program director, said in a press release. “Where you are generating social enterprise, you are generating income and the income can be used to provide for the underserved communities.”
Brien A. Holden, PhD, DSc, LOSc, CEO of the Institute, believes the alignment will “foster genuine outcomes” and will allow for more global solutions. In 2010, Holden and Naidoo were recognized at the regional World Economic Forum in Tanzania with the Schwab Social Entrepreneur Award for Africa 2010.
“Together as one organization, we believe if we harness our efforts, broaden our scope and deepen our established strategies we can achieve much more,” Naidoo said.
