Salus University named Rear Admiral Michael H. Mittelman, OD, MPH, as the new president to succeed Thomas L. Lewis, OD, PhD.

“With 32 years as a senior health care executive in the U.S. Navy, Mittelman brings a wealth of experience to the position of president that includes clinical and research backgrounds,” Jo Surpin, Salus University Board of Trustees, said in a press release.

Mittelman is currently serving as deputy surgeon general of the Navy and deputy chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. He will complete his service with the Navy prior to becoming president in late spring or early summer 2013. Lewis will remain as president during this period.
