LAS VEGAS – Shamir released a new Freeform lens, Shamir InTouch, for frequent smartphone and tablet users, here at Vision Expo West.

The progressive lenses provide comfort in the “handheld zone,” the distance where digital devices are primarily held, between 15 and 27 inches.

“As the use of digital devices has become more widespread, Shamir recognized the need for an everyday progressive solution that optimized the vision area for patients using these devices throughout the day,” Matt Lytle, vice president of marketing, said in a company press release.

It will be available in 15-mm and 18-mm fitting heights and in CR-39, SuperLite 1.60, SuperLite 1.74, polycarbonate and DLC Trivex.

Patients can expect up to a 25% quicker transition of add power in the intermediate zone, according to the release. It offers a 22% broader reading area and 21% wider intermediate area.
