Oculus introduces screener for topography, dry eye

Issue: October 2012

LAS VEGAS – Oculus released its Keratograph 5M for topography and screening for dry eye disorders here at Vision Expo West.

The high-resolution color camera can record bulbar and limbal redness in an objective, automatic process. The R-scan assesses the degree of redness and conjunctival vessels and is followed by classification. The tear film is assessed under white or infrared illumination. Measurements of noninvasive break-up time and tear meniscus height can be recorded.

The Keratograph 5M can assess meibomian glands using infrared light.

It determines pre- and postoperative data and can create a basis for contact lens fitting. The OxiMap offers oxygen transmissibility in a graphic representation of Dk/t values over the lens as a function of refractive power.

A video, of up to 32 images per second, makes it possible to study the spreading of tear film particles and draw conclusions on tear film dynamics and viscosity.
