VSP releases health care act informational video

VSP has made available a short educational video with the intent to explain the finer points of the Affordable Care Act and its impact on optometrists in the U.S.

The video presents, in plain language, how the new system and the insurance exchanges will affect private optometry.

According to the video, without guaranteed access to medical plans, which many vision plans will be excluded from, and payment parity, optometrists risk losing access to many of their current patients, let alone new patients.

There are three big risks for optometry under the Affordable Care Act, according to the video: fewer patients will get eye exams, optometrists could be locked out of medical plans and optometrists could be forced to see more patients from other plans.

“To help protect your patient access, VSP will continue to push for direct participation of stand-alone vision plans in the state insurance exchanges, as well as for the inclusion of a comprehensive eye exam benefit as part of the law,” the video said.

The video is available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpK8pyGgAuM&feature=youtu.be.
