Website assists contact lens wearers in replacement schedule
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A website reminding consumers when to change contact lenses was deemed a helpful tool in a recent survey, according to a press release from Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.
Acuminder.com is a free online service that notifies contact lens wearers when it is time to change or purchase lenses, schedule an annual eye exam or submit rebate information, according to the release. The system automatically sends e-mail or text message reminders, the release said.
Nearly 40,000 contact lens consumers are registered for Acuminder, which launched in 2007, the press release said.
Users of the website recently responded to an online questionnaire about their habits regarding contact lens replacement and wear. Prior to enrolling in the Acuminder notification system, 40% of survey participants self-reported wearing 2-week lenses for an average wear time of 19.9 days, the release said. Since using the system, 76% said they now replace 2-week lenses at or less than every 14 days.
Roughly 95% of respondents said the tool was useful, and 66% said the reminders had improved their replacement behavior, the release said.
