LAS VEGAS — Shamir Insight Inc. announced the availability of Shamir Relax as well as the planned launch of the Shamir FirstPAL and Shamir Golf lenses, here at International Vision Expo and Conference.

Relax is designed for wearers between 18 and 40 years old to address visual fatigue. According to Matt Lytle, Shamir vice president of sales and marketing, the lens will have a low add in the bottom for computer use, reading and smartphone use, "so the eyes won't have to work so hard," he said at a press conference.

Relax is available through Shamir's Autograph distribution network.

The FirstPAL lens, planned for 2012, is designed for younger presbyopes between 40 and 45 years old who have begun to notice the need for a progressive solution. To account for the sometimes difficult transition from a single vision to a progressive design, the Shamir FirstPAL will be limited to a +0.75 D to +1.5 D add, according to a company press release.

FirstPAL will provide wide far vision with a short corridor, Mr. Lytle said. "The idea is for doctors to be able to serve every patient with a Shamir lens," he added.

Shamir's Golf lens, also planned for 2012, caters to the specific needs of golfers, providing them with sharp focal points on the far away green, the ball at the player's feet and the scorecard in the player's hand. It also enhances peripheral vision, according to the release.
