Research shows biocompatibility of new solution

ATLANTA – Here at SECO 2011, representatives from Bausch + Lomb shared with PRIMARY CARE OPTOMETRY NEWS recent study results that showed the compatibility of Biotrue lenses with conventional and silicone hydrogel lenses.

A B+L-funded study evaluated the physical compatibility of lenses subjected to 30 cycles of the Biotrue regimen. Researchers looked at lens diameter, center thickness, power and base curve, according to the study abstract.

Biocompatibility was assessed through six consecutive, prospective studies conducted in 1,560 subjects who used Biotrue solution over the course of 2 years. Investigators evaluated corneal staining and slit lamp findings.

Changes in physical lens parameters were all within ISO specifications for the lenses, and Biotrue was found to be biocompatible with both conventional and silicone hydrogels.
