Optometry Giving Sight will undergo a change in its leadership structure in the United States with the departure of Vic Connors, OD, who has resigned as chairman and chief executive officer.

“We are all saddened by Dr. Connors’ decision but appreciate his view that the role needs to be more than a part-time position, which it has been for the past 2 years,” acting country manager and global CEO, Clive Miller said in an Optometry Giving Sight press release.

Mr. Miller said the organization remains deeply indebted to Dr. Connors for the incredible contribution he has made to all levels of the organization since it was launched in the United States in 2005. Mr. Miller also recognized Dr. Connors for the leadership and inspiration he provided to the staff and his peers and colleagues who have donated so generously as a result of his advocacy and fundraising efforts.

“We are delighted that he will be remaining as a director of the global board,” Brien Holden, OD, PhD, OGS executive chair, said in the release.

Mr. Miller said an announcement will be made in coming weeks regarding the appointment of a new national committee chairperson.

Optometry Giving Sight specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye examination and glasses. It was created in 2003 by the World Council of Optometry, the International Centre for Eyecare Education and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness as a means of mobilizing resources from the global optometric community to fund the development of sustainable eye care projects for people in need.
