IOL safer than LASIK for some

SAN FRANCISCO – In two studies appearing in the September issue of Ophthalmology, the Artisan intraocular lens, which is designed for implantation into the eyes that retain their natural lenses, was determined to be an accurate and safe method for correcting moderate to high nearsightedness. According to the study results, the intraocular lens may give better results in these cases than LASIK. Unlike previous phakic intraocular lenses, the Artisan lens is fixated on the periphery of the iris, avoiding movement and the associated ocular damage seen.
