ICO awarded RWJF grant towards model health care alliance

DALLAS – The Illinois College of Optometry announced here at the AOA Congress that it has been awarded a substantial grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The grant will be used to fund ICO’s Vision of Hope Health Alliance program. The program will provide health care to low-income, uninsured adults through a network of providers.

ICO began the Vision of Hope program in 2000 to provide eye care to underprivileged adults. With funding of $500,000 over 4 years, the program will now expand to medical partners in the network to provide complete health care. The grant, along with matching funds from local philanthropic sources, will be used to “complete the circle of care and re-engage people into the health care system” according to Anthony D’Andrea, vice president for Institutional Advancement at ICO. ICO’s goal is to create a model that future U.S. health care alliances can adopt to serve this segment of the population.
