Full-auto tonometer prototype previewed

NEW YORK — Canon gave International Vision Expo attendees the first look at its noncontact TX-20P full-auto tonometer.

The TX-20P is designed to measure intraocular pressure and central corneal thickness in both eyes automatically and incorporates a pachymeter that will automatically calculate and display corrected eye pressure measurements, according to a company press release.

The tonometer, which is not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is more lightweight than its predecessor, the TXF, and uses 30% less energy, a company spokesperson told PRIMARY CARE OPTOMETRY NEWS.

One touch starts the device, and it automatically moves to the other eye, a spokesperson told PCON. Manual mode is also available.
