Essilor unveils new lens technologies

LAS VEGAS — Here at the International Vision Expo and Conference, Essilor of America introduced three technologies: Trexa, a new lens material; Optifog lens anti-fog property; and a Dispensary Manager Program.

Trexa is a new Trivex-based material that trumps standard plastic, according to Essilor. Trexa lenses are thinner, having a refractive index of 1.53; lighter, with a specific gravity of 1.11 g/cm3; easier to drill mount, with a high tensile strength of 61.2 kg/f; safer, blocking 100% of UV transmittance; and six times stronger than plastic, according to a company press release.

The technology is available in progressive lenses, full back-side digital lenses, finished single vision lenses and more.

The Optifog technology employs an Optifog Activator drop, applied to both sides of the lens once a week, that allows for fog-free vision for the entire week.

"Fog is everywhere, and now with Optifog technology, patients finally have an option for fog-free vision," Carl Bracy, senior vice president of marketing and new business, said in a press release.

The technology is suitable for all patients with visual corrective needs. Essilor will begin offering Crizal and TD2 lenses with the new Optifog technology on Oct. 25, according to the release.

The Dispensary Manager Program is a comprehensive course for dispensary managers that will teach them how to develop strategic plans; manage key metrics; identify sales trends; track sales and revenue; work with vendors; recruit; hire; manage employee performance; build merchandising, pricing and growth strategies; and identify and manage patient needs and issues, the release said.

The course is offered by Essilor's Eye Care Practice University and training center.
