ABO announces high pass rate for initial board certification exam
ST. LOUIS — The American Board of Optometry reported that nearly all active candidates who completed the inaugural Board Certification Examination passed.
According to a press release from the American Board of Optometry (ABO), 453 of 489 (92.6%) of those who took the exam became ABO diplomates.
"We extend congratulations to this group of optometrists who have taken the first step in demonstrating their commitment to lifelong learning," David A. Cockrell, OD, ABO chairman of the board, said in the release. "We are pleased with the number of candidates who took on the challenge of the first examination and look for this number to grow significantly in the coming year."
A listing of the new Diplomates will be available soon at www.americanboardofoptometry.org.
Registration is open for the next ABO examination, which will be administered Nov. 28 through Dec. 11.
The ABO also welcomed a new member, Chelsea L. Miller, OD, to its board of directors. Dr. Miller has been an active member of Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity and was involved in several mission trips to Guanajuato, Mexico. She completed her residency training in ocular disease at Omni Eye Services of Atlanta and is currently in private practice in Racine, Wis., where she specializes in diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, in addition to practicing primary care optometry, the release said.
