New AOA Board of Trustees inducted

DALLAS – Here at Optometry's Meeting, the 108th Annual American Optometric Association Congress, the new AOA Board of Trustees was sworn in June 25. Richard L. Wallingford Jr., OD, of Rockwood, Maine, assumed the AOA presidency after serving a year as president-elect. Three other optometrists assumed officer positions by acclamation: C. Thomas Crooks III, OD, of Birmingham, became president-elect; Kevin L. Alexander, OD, PhD, of Big Rapids, Mich., moved into the vice president position; and Peter H. Kehoe, OD, of Galesburg, Ill., is now secretary-treasurer.

Four candidates ran for two trustee positions: David A. Cockrell, OD, Stillwater, Okla.; Ronal L. Hopping, OD, Houston; Randolph Lee, OD; and W. Joseph Garvin, OD, Escondido, Calif. The AOA's Nominating Committee nominated Drs. Cockrell and Hopping; Drs. Lee and Garvin were nominated from the floor. After a roll call was conducted, Dr. Cockrell and Dr. Hopping received the majority of the votes and were sworn in as new board members.

Wesley E. Pittman, OD, now serves as immediate past president, and the remaining trustees are Randolph E. Brooks, OD, of Ledgewood, N.J.; J. Wayne Buck, OD, of Crossett, Ark.; Dori M. Carlson, OD, Park River, N.D.; and Joe E. Ellis, OD, of Benton, Ky.
