These photos of a 62-year-old white female who came to the office of Jeffrey R. Varanelli, OD, Warren, Mich., with a complaint of a half moon in her right eye were chosen as the winner of this months Ocular Photography Challenge. The patient stated that the initial onset was about 2 months prior, but said there are now two half moons in her vision.
Visual acuity was 20/25 OD and 20/30 OS. The patient has a medical history significant for lung cancer and is currently in a trial for a new medication. Anterior segment evaluation was normal, but the dilated fundus exam revealed a nevoid type lesion with overlying drusen inferior to the nerve and a solid choroidal infiltrate above the nerve, likely metastatic from her lung cancer.
Radiation treatment was recommended, which the patient will undergo. A Zeiss Visucam-NM was used to capture these photos.
As this months winner, Dr. Varanelli will receive an HA-2 Handheld Tonometer, provided by Kowa.
