CAO issues World Sight Day challenge

The Connecticut Association of Optometrists has joined the World Sight Day Challenge and is asking all 250 Connecticut-based optometrists to donate their eye exam fees on World Sight Day, Oct. 11, or to sign up for a regular monthly donation to Optometry Giving Sight.
"I hope all my colleagues in Connecticut and across the country will join me in taking the World Sight Day Challenge," J. James Thimons, OD, a Fairfield, Conn., practitioner and Primary Care Optometry News Editorial Board member, said. "It is a great opportunity for all optometrists to help give sight to the estimated 13 million children throughout the world who are blind or vision impaired simply due to a lack of glasses.
"Uncorrected refractive error is optometry's business," continued Dr. Thimons, "and I would like to think we could raise $50,000 for projects that provide training and infrastructure for people who can't access even basic eye care services."
Practice staff, patients and students can also participate by making a regular donation of $5, which is about what it costs to provide an eye exam, a pair of glasses and residual training for staff in countries that lack eye care services.
