SEATTLE — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ARVO meeting, William Reindel, OD, discusses the impact of pupil size on vision and comfort performance of a new multifocal daily disposable contact lens.

The study included 293 subjects with presbyopia who were divided into four categories based on pupil size. Pupil size ranged from 2 mm to 7 mm.

There was no significant difference across the four categories in terms of median logMAR distance, intermediate and near visual acuity. The median ratings for overall comfort for distance, intermediate and near vision were all high.

“This led us to determine that the visual acuity and performance of the three-zone progressive lens provided comfort and vision that didn’t differ for the various pupil size categories,” Reindel said. “The vision and comfort outcomes for the Kalifilcon A multifocal lens provide a favorable wear experience for the patients, and practitioners will find it is consistent across patients’ various pupil sizes as well.”
