BOSTON — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ASCRS meeting, Arun C. Gulani, MD, founding director and chief surgeon of Gulani Vision Institute, discusses how to assist patients who are unhappy after their premium cataract surgery.

Gulani said his fellow ophthalmologists should spend time educating patients about their options, take time to carefully select the lens implant and be prepared to provide a fix in case the outcome is less than optimal.

“My very simple adage that I keep mentioning to colleagues is stop emphasizing the lens. It’s just an ingredient. You are the master chef. The vision recipe is what’s important,” he said. “By just putting a new lens in someone’s eye whose optical system doesn’t match with it, you are creating a situation that may end up with a problem.”
