TAMPA, Fla. — In a presentation from Telling It Like It Is, Analisa Arosemena, MD, discussed the path to achieving 24/7 IOP control for patients with glaucoma and the role that canaloplasty may play.

According to Arosemena, ophthalmologists should move away from medication as a glaucoma treatment due to toxicity to the ocular surface and issues with patient compliance. In contrast, canaloplasty is repeatable, has a low complication rate and can be performed alongside a stent.

“There are plenty of options out there to make the experience better, to take medications out, to take compliance out of the patient’s care and for us to be able to give them real control,” she said.
