VIDEO: Understanding antibiotic resistance trends in eye infections important
SAN FRANCISCO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, Penny A. Asbell, MD, FACS, MBA, overviews the ARMOR study and antibiotic resistance in eye infections.
“We’re actually seeing a decrease in resistance over time in the methicillin-resistant organisms. But it’s still here,” she said. “We got to look at it year to year to see the trends and treat it as needed.”
Asbell also gives advice on treatment for patients with serious eye infections.
“In any infection, think about doing a culture,” she said. “That’s your best source of information going forward to treat the patient most effectively.”
