SAN FRANCISCO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, George O. Waring IV, MD, FACS, reports positive outcomes for patients with cataracts who were implanted with a combination of two different presbyopia-correcting IOLs.

“We had hypothesized some time ago that if we can take the best aspects of two different technologies and use them to create a binocular visual circumstance, we might really push range of vision with quality,” he said.

According to Waring, a prospective trial consisted of 60 eyes that received the Tecnis Symfony extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL in the dominant eyes and the Tecnis Synergy hybrid EDOF-diffractive multifocal IOL (both Johnson & Johnson Vision) in the nondominant eyes.

Overall, the IOL combination demonstrated “a broad range of vision with a high level of satisfaction,” he said.
