KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — In this presentation from Kiawah Eye, Leon W. Herndon Jr., MD, explores the future of sustained-release drug delivery for glaucoma treatment, which may help improve patient compliance.

“We know that our patients with glaucoma have trouble taking their drops for a long period of time,” Herndon said.

Herndon discusses upcoming glaucoma treatment options that may take the burden off patients, including a continuous drug delivery implant and a sustained-release implant.

“The future of ophthalmic pharmaceutical is drug delivery,” he said. “Topical medications as we know them now may change greatly over the next several years.”
