Key takeaways:

  • In a study, thinner corneas were thickened enough to proceed with cross-linking.
  • The rate of swelling depended on baseline corneal thickness.

SAN DIEGO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ASCRS meeting, Zeba A. Syed, MD, ABO, discusses a study that evaluated the thickening of corneas before corneal cross-linking.

According to Syed, the goals of the study were to determine whether patients’ corneas could be thickened safely enough to proceed with cross-linking and what factors may contribute to the rate of thickening during the procedure.

“Fortunately, we were able to thicken every single cornea in our study to over 400 µm, which is the threshold to proceed with cross-linking,” she said.
