On May 6, 2012, OSN columnist John Pinto launched “Voyage to EHR,” a month-long solo sail from San Diego to Honolulu aboard 24-foot “Aurelia” sponsored by Ocular Surgery News and Compulink.  You can follow his mid-ocean blogs here, and track his daily progress online until his slated arrival in early June by clicking on  http://tinyurl.com/AureliatoHawaii. John’s practice management blogs will resume in July.

Aloha from Aurelia at 28 degrees, 36 minutes north, and 124 degrees, 12 minutes west, on Friday, May 11 at 9 a.m.

Now, a very interesting game begins as we veer southwest on leg three of this voyage, which will lead us to steadier and stronger trade winds in a few days. For now, if we sail too far to the west, the wind dies. If we sail too far to the south, the wind angles are wrong. So it’s a question of balance.

A beautiful sunrise this morning—gentle, 12-foot swells from the northwest. The sea has her moods, and today she is generous, steady, calm and warm. This won’t last, of course, but Aurelia and I are enjoying the moment.

Mahalo, and thanks for your support for the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.

John’s voyage is meant to raise awareness of the similar “expedition” surgeons undertake when converting to electronic health records and will also support the work of the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
