Voyage to EHR, Day 3
On May 6, 2012, OSN columnist John Pinto launched “Voyage to EHR,” a month-long solo sail from San Diego to Honolulu aboard 24-foot “Aurelia” sponsored by Ocular Surgery News and Compulink. You can follow his mid-ocean blogs here, and track his daily progress online until his slated arrival in early June by clicking on http://tinyurl.com/AureliatoHawaii. John’s practice management blogs will resume in July.
Aloha from Aurelia at 31 degrees, 24 minutes north, and 119 degrees, 23 minutes west at 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
What a difference a day makes. On Day One of this voyage, winds were so light that we had to motor all but four hours. After a day of flat calm, we have spent Day Two under a double-reefed main and spanked jib with 25 knots on the nose and 15-foot seas.
Engine noise has been replaced by the crash, boom, bang of Aurelia climbing up and then tumbling down each successive wave. A light rain is falling.
Below decks, Aurelia is like an unlimited pass on a carnival Tilt-A-Whirl ride. It’s a good day for hot tea, a good book, and lots of back-to-back-napping.
John’s voyage is meant to raise awareness of the similar “expedition” surgeons undertake when converting to electronic health records and will also support the work of the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
