The future is really bright in terms of the interventions for chronic kidney disease. Again, interventions that sort of benefit all patients with chronic kidney disease. You know, there's been many, like I mentioned, many different interventions looking at certain kidney diseases. But what the pipeline right now is really filled with a lot of targeted therapies.
You know, whether it's targeted therapies for autoimmune conditions or targeted therapies for, like I mentioned, diabetics. But now, you know, some of the most exciting things are targeted therapies for locking scar formation. 'Cause once you trigger scar in the kidneys, it's done at that point. So what you wanna do is minimize the amount of scar formation that occurs in the kidneys.
Well, what, you know, many, many years of basic science study have shown is that, okay, these are the steps involved in the development of scar in the kidneys. So the future therapies will really target those steps and maybe look at sort of decreasing the scar formation, which again is sort of that final common pathway. So there again, it will really help many, many patients. Basically all patients really with chronic kidney disease.
In this video, Udayan Bhatt, MD, a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University, discusses the pipeline for developing chronic kidney disease treatments.
