The deal involves four separate acquisitions from Fresenius Medical Care for a total $300 million. The transaction in Chile closed in May, while the remaining are subject to each country’s anti-trust and regulatory approval and are expected to be completed this year.

Combined with DaVita’s existing Latin American operations in Brazil and Colombia, the company will have more than 15,000 teammates and 60,000 patients in more than 270 clinics following completion of the transactions and become the largest dialysis services provider in Latin America, according to the release. DaVita’s international operations currently serve 12 countries outside of the United States and will increase from 23,000 patients in 2017 to more than 79,000 patients pending completion of the deal.

“Delivering outstanding clinical care for individuals suffering from kidney disease is our most important priority,” Lang added. “We look forward to building on our existing market expertise and the established quality of these centers through this transition.”
