The scholarship program is aimed at “improving access to home dialysis for all individuals with kidney diseases,” Deidra C. Crews, MD, ScM, FASN, ASN president, said in the release. “Improving education and exposure … will pave the way for a future kidney medicine workforce to ensure universal access to home dialysis and improve care of people on dialysis.”

Initially launched in 2023, the scholarship program offered 30 fellows the opportunity to attend the HDU educational course. ASN formed a home dialysis steering committee in 2021 to prioritize gaps in home dialysis education and advocacy. Along with recommendations from that committee and a cooperative agreement with the CDC, ASN established the curriculum allowing fellows to explore advanced specialized care and other career goals.

Fellows can apply to attend the course in Chicago from Sept. 8-10, according to the release.
