Balboa Nephrology and IKONA Health have entered into a partnership to develop, test and commercialize education for people with kidney disease, according to a press release.
Balboa is “thrilled to team up with IKONA ... to address health inequity involving people with CKD and [end-stage kidney disease] ESKD, arming them with knowledge, confidence and control as they navigate their health care journey,” Bijal Patel, MD, president of the San Diego-based practice, said in the release.
Key aims of the partnership include addressing challenges in kidney care education, training and support for patients with CKD and ESKD. The collaboration will connect Balboa’s network of clinical offices and dialysis centers with evidence-based learning solutions from IKONA, which include virtual reality and analytical approaches, according to the release. Patient-centric programs will help patients navigate health care from acute settings to outpatient and in-home care, according to the release.
The partnership also intends to bolster social support networks and raise awareness among patients with early stage CKD with comprehensive learning around treatment options.
“Balboa is one of the most forward thinking and innovative nephrology groups and leadership teams in the country. We’re excited to deepen our relationship and work together to bring effective, evidence-based learning tools to their patients, families and staff,” Tim Fitzpatrick, co-founder and CEO of IKONA, said in the release. “We believe this partnership will open the door for new ways of engaging, educating and supporting patients ... from navigating early stage kidney disease to choosing treatment options.”
