ORLANDO — In this video from ASN Kidney Week, Mihran Naljayan, MD, chief medical officer for home modalities and pediatrics at DaVita Kidney Care, talks about the dialysis provider’s focus on clinical outcomes and safety initiatives.

Naljayan, who took over the CMO position in March 2022, has a special interest in patient retention and health equity. He designed DaVita’s home physician support network, which works directly with physician practices to provide education and help support home modality growth.

“I really see home being an entry point into the dialysis world if my patient cannot get a (kidney) transplant first,” Naljayan told Healio. “To get that flexibility and for them to be able to spend time with their family and friends at home, as well as flexibility in their diet and enjoying those things that really bring them life — that can make home modalities a good choice for many patients.”

Naljayan is a clinical associate professor at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he maintains his nephrology practice, and served as the interim chief of the section of nephrology and nephrology fellowship program director at LSU prior to transitioning to his post at DaVita.
