The American Society of Nephrology has announced the second year of its loan mitigation program, which provides six nephrology trainees from underrepresented groups $50,000 in 3 years, according to ASN President Susan E. Quaggin, MD, FASN.

According to Quaggin, eligible candidates must hold an MD or a DO degree and must be a current student or recent graduate of internal medicine, pediatrics or combined internal medicine and pediatrics. Additionally, a candidate’s degree must be applied to a nephrology career to qualify for the loan program.

To continue with its mission of enhancing and supporting diversity in nephrology, ASN’s Loan Mitigation Program will focus on applicants who self-identify as African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaskan Native and/or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Recipients of the 2021 program include Justin L. Bullock, MD, MPH, Juan Moreno-Ortiz, MD, Ana Solis Zavala, MD, Gabriel J. Torres-Rivera, MD, Manuel Urra, MD, and Anna E. Williams, MD.

Those interested in loan assistance can apply between Sept. 12, 2022, and Oct. 7, 2022.
