Renata Arrington-Sanders, MD, MPH, ScM
Healio spoke with Renata Arrington-Sanders, MD, MPH, ScM, about the importance of HIV PrEP intake in teens and how the pandemic may have affected PrEP adherence among patients of any age.
In this video series, Arrington-Sanders, associate professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University, discussed:
- a summary of the changes to the CDC’s 2021 practice guidelines for HIV PrEP;
- study findings that revealed a decrease in HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- low access to PrEP, particularly among patients aged 15 to 24 years;
- how to approach conversations of PrEP with young adult and teenage patients, and how to involve parents;
- three “cutting” areas in HIV PrEP that need more attention in the future; and
- the hope of more “precision” around indications and modalities for HIV PrEP.
