When I was in high school, I had an opportunity to shadow the medical field through the Girl Scouts. This led to me volunteering at a hospital during undergrad.
It was my academic advisor, who worked in the field of infectious disease, who really inspired me to pursue this as my career.
I love the critical thinking and problem-solving that are involved in the daily work. Working with patients who have various histories to uncover makes each diagnosis a unique puzzle to solve.
But I think the aspect I find most rewarding is the opportunity to mentor and teach young physicians.
