Elizabeth A. Comen, MD, has been appointed associate professor in the department of medicine at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center.
Comen previously served as a medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Comen’s clinical and translational research has focused on the relationship between the immune system and breast cancer growth, particularly in metastatic disease.
“Dr. Comen’s dedication to advancing breast cancer research and treatment aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing the highest quality of care and conducting innovative research to better understand and treat cancer,” Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, Anita Steckler and Joseph Steckler professor and chair of radiation oncology and director of Perlmutter Cancer Center, said in a press release. “We are thrilled to welcome her to our team.”
Comen’s recently published a book titled All in Her Head, which addresses pervasive gaps in women’s health care and highlights the need for more conversations about women’s health.
She also has been involved with the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research and the Women’s Health Access Matters (WHAM) Collaborative to promote equity for women’s health.
“I am honored to contribute to Perlmutter Cancer Center’s mission of providing compassionate, cutting-edge care to people facing breast cancer,” Comen said in the release. “I look forward to working alongside my esteemed colleagues to further our understanding of this disease and improve outcomes for patients.”
