Thoracic oncologist appointed cancer center executive director

Taofeek K. Owonikoko, MD, PhD, has been named executive director of University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Owonikoko — a thoracic oncologist — also will serve as senior associate dean for cancer programs at University of Maryland School of Medicine, as well as associate vice president for cancer programs at University of Maryland, Baltimore.
The appointments will take effect in January.
Owonikoko’s research has focused on identification of preclinical biomarkers in small cell lung cancer and other solid tumors.
Owonikoko most recently served as chief of the division of hematology/oncology and Stanley M. Marks — Oncology Hematology Associates endowed chair in hematology/oncology leadership at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as well as associate director for translational research and co-leader of the cancer therapeutics program at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
He previously served as professor and vice chair in the department of hematology and medical oncology at Emory University School of Medicine and Winship Cancer Institute.
