Katims, a Urologic Oncology Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, highlighted a study from UCLA that examined new targeted imaging techniques for clear cell renal cell carcinoma that could help distinguish between benign and malignant lesions and help avoid unnecessary surgeries.

“Importantly, all of the false positives were other types of renal cell carcinoma, so it had a perfect rate of detecting cancer versus benign disease,” Katims said. “The imaging technique is exciting enough in itself, but I think equally exciting is the possibility of having new therapy come from it.
